Its been a long time since this page has been updated, but some things are worth mentioning here so that it can be remembered. :)
p.s. the prizes are quite decent! Haha. Yay!
Last weekend was epic. Boulderactive was huge with yuji and kim coming down! This is the first year where I didn’t do much to help this time, graduated and all. :p but its great to see so many people around to help out. Plus the event tees were nice! Especially the competitor ones! :)
Its Monday today and the back-to-work feeling is starting to settle in. but yesterday night was one of my happiest moments when I won the Open Womens finals. Exhilarated, ecstatic, absolutely happy and overjoyed! I’ve made it a goal to get 1st for boulderactive ever since I started going making it into OW finals. Not just any comp, but boulderactive. Theres something about the pride that comes with winning a competition organised by your own school, even more so when there are overseas competitors making the game all the more intense. Only 3 years ago, I saw myself getting that gold for novice women and look where I am now, mum! Haha. My family came down for once this time.. a happy mother’s day indeed. My mum was so proud of me (she asked me to ask her to come watch again next time)! Note: they have never watched me play netball finals nor seen my climbing comps until yesterday, delayed, I know. Haha.
Anyways, I tied with ploy in the finals but my ranking in qfy boosted me up. this comp was different from OBC, the recent comp in march. This comp, I told myself to really climb hard, not giving up and this time I believe my mental was stronger. I didn’t train much, not disciplined enough.. but simply just climbed hard, made sure I worked my mental skills during those sessions and it turned out well! there are times when I compare my strength and power to others in the gym, and fall short. but competitions are different from gym sessions. And I know that very well because of all the training ive received when I was in NUS. Right from the start, I’ve always started out as a competitive climber, not someone who loves climbing. I guess that’s the culture in NUS. But im glad I had those extra mock comps, tips from seniors, competition advices from Jensen when he was coaching us, and lots of “open” climbing to gain experience to become better. Cant get those anywhere else! Haha.
This win may be a one time thing, or “just another win” if you compare it to the other OWs who’ve been owning the sport for the past few comps. But I cant help but beam from ear to ear on this one. I mean like, this is really possible afterall! and thanks to all who’ve congratulated me. Makes me happy to know you guys are proud of me. And the many hugs I get from the girls. Awww.
Special mention to the IWs who really gave a gd show in their finals. Ah pa must be so proud of you! And dearest chloe, more to come!
