Recently in the 2013 SEA Games, I read about someone who gave her all and worked hard to get to where she was. It set me thinking about alot of things regarding Singapore athletes and where these individuals are today. I see my friends daily pushing limits and passionate about what they do.
Anyways, this athlete I mentioned was just like one any of us, working, yet dreaming of something more. The amount of sacrifice she put down, the sweat and persistence is something which we can all learn from. Her situation could mirror most of the sports in Singapore except for the few niche.
I'm trying to also find a way to work towards what I want for myself. There are times when I believe many of us would feel like we are not given enough chances, opportunities and support. Has it always been this way? I feel that many of us are fighting that desperation to balance the work-life and sport commitments. But key word here: SACRIFICE.
Yet I choose to believe that the athletes in Singapore are a bunch of people who actually knows that they are doing something that they love. And I take pride in that. How many people can say that there is something that they look forward to after a long day of work. Something that they willingly sacrifice public holidays and off-days for, just to go to the gym and train and train? How many can say that they actually enjoy doing something, that there is a purpose in their life for that brief moment that carries on week after week?
Because this is what keeps me going and fighting for. I will not submit to just going to work day after day because I am not a worker, I am someone who knows that she can achieve something more.
